Starting therapy or finding a new therapist is so daunting– I hope you can feel pride in yourself for taking this step! You might not know exactly what you are looking for, and that’s okay.
I offer individual therapy services for adults struggling with challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, or life changes. I welcome individuals from all backgrounds, races, sexualities, genders, or religions.
I have worked with my clients on exploring conflicts in their relationships; feeling safer in the world and their bodies; questioning the social norms of gender, sexuality, neurotype, and body image; and, my favorite part, cheering them on when they feel like they are able to live authentically as themselves in a harsh world that wants us to be small!
I view myself as a support or helper in your journey. Collaboratively, we examine the history and experiences that brought you to where you are today. We use empathy, curiosity, and insight to help us to better understand your suffering and what steps you might be able to take to relieve it. We build on the strengths and skills you already have. We try to offer compassion to the parts of you that you may not understand, or even judge.
I seek to bring a feminist, culturally aware, and anti-colonial lens into my therapeutic work. The history of Western talk therapy cannot be separated from our American history of oppression. These systems have greatly shaped the ways we feel about ourselves and the issues we bring to therapy. Internal voices that may hold racist, homophobic, fatphobic, or ableist beliefs frequently show up in the therapy space. When we bring awareness to this, we begin a process of handing those beliefs back to their original owners and make space for gentleness, non-judgement, and care towards ourselves.
Don't Hesitate – Mary Oliver
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don't hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still,
life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is
its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that's often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
